Legislative Session Benefits Communities

    Edgewood was not the only community in the area to benefit from the recent session of the New Mexico Legislature.
    Estancia reaped more than $100,000 in state funding for its planned new medical clinic as well as $80,000 for improvements to the municipal building and $15,000 for upgrades at the senior center.
    The Moriarty Municipal Schools district received nearly $300,000 in state funds to be used toward a planned performing arts theater. The city of Moriarty got nearly $250,000 for improvements to the city park where the annual Pinto Bean Fiesta has been held for the last several years.
    Mountainair received about $200,000 for sewer system upgrades, an addition to the fire department building and other public safety improvements.
    The Torrance County Sheriff's Department garnered about $25,000 for vehicles and equipment, while McIntosh got $18,000 for equipment replacement and improvements for the fire department. Another $20,000 was earmarked for improvements to the 7th Judicial District complex.
    Willard can expect $15,000 for its waste-water system, and Manzano will get more than $50,000 for its water system. Encino was awarded $10,000 for road equipment.
