    Dressage Club Meets Wednesday
    The next meeting of the Windsong Dressage Social Club will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the club room at Windsong Dressage and Equestrian Center, 733 Route 344 in Edgewood.
    The meeting will begin with a video review of currently available German dressage stallions who have frozen semen in the United States.
    The social club meets on the first Wednesday of the month, when riders get together and talk about dressage and related horse-riding issues. Light refreshments are available. Everyone interested in dressage is welcome. There is no fee and no membership requirement.
    Dressage is an international Olympic discipline that seeks to train horses in obedience and precision of movement. Windsong Dressage and Equestrian Center opened in 1984. Ulla Hudson, the owner and full-time instructor, is a German-born and -trained dressage instructor with a lifetime of experience in dressage and classical methods of training.

    'Teacher's Pet' A Free Friday Movie
    Free Friday Night Movies return to the Moriarty Community Center on July 9.
    This month's features are "Teacher's Pet" and "The Haunted Mansion." The movies run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Drinks and candy will be sold.
    Free Friday Night Movies are made possible by a CYFD grant and the Estancia Valley Partners for Children & Families Underage Drinking Prevention Initiatives.
    Moriarty Clas Reunion July 9
    The Moriarty High School Class of 1994 will hold a 10-year reunion in July.
    The event will kick off July 9 with a no-host reception for alumni at the Buford Steakhouse starting at 7 p.m.
    A family picnic at the park in Moriarty will begin at 11 a.m. on July 10, followed by a dinner for alumni and spouses at the Sheraton Uptown in Albuquerque at 6 p.m.
    The cost for the dinner reception is $38 per person. Payments need to be made no later than today.

    Locks of Love To Hold Benefit Sale
    Cheri's Hair Studio in Sandia Park is looking for artists, crafters and other creative types to show and sell their work at the studio's second annual Christmas in July sale to benefit Locks of Love.
    The sale will be July 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cheri's at 17 Sumption Road. An auction and raffle are also in the planning stages. Proceeds from the event will go to Locks of Love.

    Church Events Fun For Children 4-12
    "FUN in the SON" means fun by the ton for East Mountains kids this summer.
    Fun-tastic Friday night events will be held July 9 and Aug. 6, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Edgewood Believers Fellowship. Kids ages 4-12 are invited to join in the fun that will include a free cookout, games, Bible teaching, crafts and freebies.

    Hunter Ed Course In Estancia July 10
    Registration is ongoing for a New Mexico hunter education class to be held in Estancia on July 10 and 11.
    The complete course in hunter education will be taught at Estancia High School by John Harding, volunteer hunter education instructor for the state Department of Game and Fish.
    The course is a comprehensive course of instruction in firearm safety, bow hunting, hunter responsibilities, wildlife identification and management, field survival and much more, Harding said.
    State law requires anyone under 18 years of age who hunts with a firearm to complete this course.
    A donation of $5 per student is requested to offset volunteer expenses. The class will be limited to 20 students.

    Archaeology Day For Kids July 10
    Friends of Tijeras Pueblo and the Cibola National Forest will host a Children's Archaeology Day and Field Trip on July 10.
    The day will start at the Sandia Ranger Station at 9 a.m. and last until approximately 3:30 p.m.
    Children will learn about archaeology by touring the Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological Site and visiting the Balsam Glade picnic area, Sandia Cave and the Sandia Cave exhibit at the Museum of Archaeology and Material Culture in Cedar Crest.
    Wear good hiking shoes, a hat and bring a lunch and water.
    The event is for children ages 9 to 14 and the fee is $10. Space is limited and preregistration is required. To register call the Sandia Ranger Station at 281-3304.
    Senior Center To Hold Crafts Sale
    The Edgewood Senior Citizens Center will hold its "Christmas in July" arts and crafts sale and bake sale on July 17.
    The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center at 114 Quail Trail.

    Lions Club Flea Markets Starting
    The Sandia Mountain Lions Club will host flea markets at Vista Grande Community Center this summer.
    The club plans flea markets at the center on July 11, Aug 1, Sept. 12 and Sept. 26.
    The local Lions Club had conducted flea markets for 10 years or more at the old Bella Vista restaurant site. But with construction of a new retail complex at that site a new home was needed for the markets, and Vista Grande officials said they were happy to be able to accommodate the markets.
    The flea markets will continue to be held outdoors at Vista Grande.

    History Center To Open To Public
    The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center in Cedar Crest will host an Outdoor Adventure Day for the general public on July 17.
    The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the environmental education center. The center teaches nearly 10,000 students a year about the Sandia Mountains, ecology and conservation, but is not often open to the public.
    Guided hikes will be conducted by New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science educators at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will also be self-guided hikes, tours of the facility at noon and 3 p.m., and a special kids' area, as well as several other fun activities for all ages and abilities.
    All-day events include the kids' pavilion with skulls, microscopes, art projects and solar oven cookies; the Puzzle Path and Un-Natural Trail; the Explorers' Center, a fun hands-on museum; native plant gardens; and a bird-viewing deck.
    A picnic ground is on the site, so pack a lunch and prepare for a day of fun and excitement. Admission is free.
