Amadors' Son Getting Married

Arnie and Sandi Amador of Cedar Crest announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, Adrian Arnie Amador, to Suzan Oshalie Awshalim, both of Phoenix.

Suzan is the daughter of Moshe and Ninawa Awshalim of Phoenix. Adrian is a 2001 graduate of Manzano High School and recently completed Apollo College. He works as a pharmacy technician at Banner/Thunderbird Medical Center.

Suzan is currently attending DeVry University for an accounting degree.

The couple plan a San Diego beach wedding on Sept. 19.

Edgewood Teens Get Scholarships

Caris Anaya and Rigney Turnham, both of Edgewood, are recipients of Sam Walton Community Scholarship.

Each will receive $3,000 for tuition, books, and room and board for the 2009-10 academic year.

Anaya and Turnham are two of 25 college-bound students from New Mexico to receive the scholarship, awarded through the Wal-Mart Foundation.

Woman Graduates From Arizona State

Heidi Alyssa Zipperian received a bachelor's degree in engineering, summa cum laude, from Arizona State University during commencement May 13.

Zipperian, the 2005 valedictorian from Moriarty High School, attended an innovative, hands-on program at ASU's Polytechnic Campus. She was co-valedictorian of the inaugural graduating class and was named Outstanding Senior for 2009 from ASU's College of Innovation and Technology.

Zipperian has been accepted into the University of Michigan's College of Engineering's department of electrical engineering, with a 5-year funded program to achieve a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering. She has interests in teaching engineering at the university level.

Zipperian is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Zipperian of Edgewood.

She was a four-year varsity soccer player at Moriarty High School.

Estancia Graduate Gets Scholarship

Aaron Smythe, a 2009 graduate of Estancia High School, received the National Organization of Hispanic Natural Resources Conservation Service Employees scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

This national organization provides scholarships to deserving Hispanic students who will pursue a bachelor's degree in a natural resources or a natural resources conservation-related field of study at an accredited four-year institution. Four scholarships were given this year.

With this scholarship, recipients will also attend the 2009 NOHNRCSE annual conference in Philadelphia.

Smythe, who is on the Torreon Volunteer Fire Department, will attend New Mexico Highlands University this fall, where he will pursue a forestry degree.
