Whether dressed as ghosts, goblins, ghouls or Chuck Norris, kids have plenty to do this Halloween weekend.
Estancia A Halloween carnival will be held at the Estancia Community Center today. A haunted house, games, food, prizes and a costume contest are featured attractions. The contest is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Children up to 9th grade are welcome to attend. Anyone with questions is asked to call Town Hall at 384-2708. Turquoise Trail Communities The theme of Los Vecinos Community Center's Halloween party this year is based on the movie "Monsters Inc." The party will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. The community center will decorate its gymnasium and has invited more than 20 local businesses to set up tables and supply candy for trick-or-treating. The event is free at Los Vecinos, which is on Old Route 66 on the west side of Tijeras. For more information, call Rick at 314-0240. The Mountainside United Methodist Church will be holding its annual Trunk 'r Treat on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The church is located at 4 Penny Lane in Cedar Crest. The Old Schoolhouse Gallery will have a Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead gallery reception on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Costumes are encouraged for this event, which will feature work inspired by the traditional celebration. Moriarty A fall carnival will be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Moriarty Elementary School gym. The night will include a pumpkin decorating contest, games, beverages and snacks. Those entering a pumpkin need to bring it in by 6:30 p.m. The winner will be announced at 8 p.m. and the winner will take home $25. A drawing will also be held, in which a name will be drawn every 10 minutes, and each winner will take home $10. Torrance County District 2 Fire Department is having its annual Halloween party Friday from 7 p.m. to midnight at 39 Indian Hills Road in Moriarty. The event is sponsored by Indian Hills Fire/Rescue Society. The 16th annual Trick-or-Treat Trailer-to-Trailer event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Each year, RV Sales in Moriarty circles its trailers, invites businesses and clubs to pass out candy and collects donations for the Bethel Community Storehouse. The event attracts about 1,600 children for a safe trick-or-treating experience. Donations and volunteers are needed for this year's event. Call 832-2400 for more information. The Moriarty Fire Department and EMTs are holding a Halloween open house on Saturday from 7-10 p.m. at the fire department. Free hot dogs, chips and soda will be on hand, as well as trick-or-treat candy, games, pumpkin painting, a cake walk and a surprise haunted visitor. The First Baptist Church of Moriarty will have a Community Harvest Festival on Saturday. The festival will feature games, prizes and refreshments. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No scary costumes, please. The free festival will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, behind the Circle K. The Estancia Valley Rodeo Association, in conjunction with the high school X-Treme Rodeo Team, will host the Halloween Fun Day Rodeo at Moriarty's Heritage Arena on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., according to an event flyer. Books will be open for barrels, flags and poles events from 11 a.m. to noon. The entry fee to cover all events is $20 per participant. Vendors are welcome free of charge. A horse-and-rider costume contest and parade will also be held and all are encouraged to wear their costumes. There will be an entry fee of one bag of candy per family. The candy will be handed out to the kids. This is not a buckle or day money event. All proceeds will benefit the 2010 EVRA family-oriented youth rodeo series. Edgewood Edgewood's High Desert Riders horse club will be holding a Halloween celebration which will include craft sales, livestock sales, flea market, kids' games and contests, haunted horse trailers, face painting for kids, food and all-around fun on Saturday from 8 a.m. to midafternoon. The location will be the grounds of the old real estate office trailer south of Walgreens. Vendor booths are $10; otherwise attendance is free.
