Maurice Ollie Lawson

Maurice Ollie Lawson passed away on Dec. 12, 2009. She was 100 years old. Mrs. Lawson was born in 1909 in Cleborn, Texas, and moved to Mountainair in 1917. She lived in Mountainair until 2009. She was an active resident of Mountainair involved with Eastern Star, PEO, Coronado Club and the Methodist and Baptist churches. She survived the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl era, and all the wars of the 20th century. She was well respected and loved in the community and on March 1, 2009, she was honored at her 100th birthday party by the issuance of a proclamation by the mayor of Mountainair which established march 1st as "Maurice Lawson Day." She is survived by her children, Mary Jo Himes and Charles Fain Lawson, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Mountainair Cemetery on Friday, July 2, 2010, at 11 a.m.

BETTY LAKE TARPLEY ANSLEY

Betty Lake Tarpley Ansley, 65, of Edgewood passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2010. Betty was born in Ft. Sumner on March 31, 1945, to Lake and Virginia (Woods) Tarpley. Betty was a member of the Stanley Union Church. She was a member of the High Desert Riders, SASS (Single Action Shooters Society) and the Church Choir. She loved the outdoors, was a proud supporter/donor to the TREAT program (Tarleton State University Equine Assisted Therapy). She enjoyed horseback riding, driving her surrey, dancing and fishing. She was an instructor of BOW (Becoming an Outdoor Woman) and was an Aflac agent. Betty is survived by her son Ronnie Ansley and his wife Rachelle of Albuquerque; daughters, Shawnna Brown and her husband Jim of Las Cruces; Danielle Luca and her husband Michael of Shrewsbury, N.J.; aunts, Dolores Boone and Virginia Deemar; sisters, Margaret Jacobs, Kathryn Tarpley Kite, and Lori van Buskirk; cousins, Barbara and Larry Sharp; Bobby and Marsha Nash; Mark and Dana Deemer; grandchildren Gabrielle Luca, Elise Brown and Ava Ansley; and many great friends. There was a memorial service at Stanley Union Church on Wednesday, June 30, with John Nash officiating.

FRANK CHARLES DAVIS

Frank Charles Davis passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2010, in his home in Moriarty. Frank was born on Aug. 26, 1928, to George Davis and Angelita Chavez Davis at the Davis Ranch, northwest of Moriarty. Frank was preceded in death by his parents. He was a resident of Moriarty all of his life. He was the youngest of 13 siblings. Bothers — Sylvester I, Sylvester II, Ascension, George, Charles and John. Sisters — Victoria D. Sanchez, Isabel Davis, Josephine Rael, Guadalupe Fogleman, Rose McCourt and Pauline Davis. Frank had two sons, Calvin and Frank Jr., who passed away. He had four grandsons, Calvin Jr. and his wife, Jodi; Brandon Boe; Colten Joseph; and Jason Edward. Great-grandchildren include Evan and Rihanna. He was previously married to Mary Alice, and had a sister-in-law Rita. Frank was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He was a building contractor and a school bus contractor for Moriarty Municipal Schools for many years. He was also a rancher. There was a Rosary recited and followed by the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 29, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Father William Young officiating. Interment followed at Moriarty Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Davis, Basil Davis, Calvin Davis Jr., Brandon Boe Davis, Colten Joseph Davis, and Jason Edward Davis. Honorary Pallbearers were Jim Satterfield, Marcos Chavez, Heather and Holly Andersen, Steven Pachta and Robert Lopez.

CHARLES LAWSON CHILDERS

Charles Lawson Childers, 93, of Estancia passed away at his home on Sunday, June 27, 2010. Charles was born in Quincy, Ill., on July 28, 1916, to William and Marie (Henhoff) Childers. He had lived in Estancia for the past 40 years having previously lived in Albuquerque where he attended Albuquerque High School. Charles married Gilberte Henriette Ghislena Rivir on Jan. 20, 1947, in Croydon, Penn. He was a retired farmer. Charles was a life member of VFW and of the Blind Veterans. He was awarded the Presidential Citation — his group was the first American "TEC/R" outfit to perform "Airspionage" in the European Theater, led by Col. George Peck, Detroit, Mich., and widely known as "Peck's Bad Boys." The group completed 5,000 successful combat missions. Charles is survived by his wife, Gilberte Henriette Ghislena Childers of Estancia; son, Charles Lawson Childers Jr. of Albuquerque, daughters Elizabeth Rudd of Bloomfield and Suzanne Montoya of Estancia; grandchildren, William Russell Barton II of Riverton, Wyo., and Brett Alan Barton of Estancia. He was preceded in death by his father William Childers, mother Marie Childers, brother William Childers, sister Mildred Childers Ellison, and his sister Marie Louise Brown. Burial will took place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on June 30. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Veterans Administration.

TONI ALICE WALKER

Toni Alice Walker, 59, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010, in Las Vegas, N.M. Toni was born in Spearman, Texas, to Roy Walker and Essie Belle (Tomlinson) Walker. Toni had lived in Las Vegas for only four. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Previously she lived in Amarillo, Albuquerque and North Carolina then back to Albuquerque. She lived in Edgewood, Estancia and Mountainair and was married to Richard Klitzke for nine years in the 1980s. Toni was preceded in death by her father, Roy Walker. She is survived by her mother, Belle Roberts and father David Roberts; brothers, Larry Walker and Allen Walker; sister, Valerie Roberts Barns and nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, 2700 Old 66 Highway in Moriarty with Rev. Robert Hunt officiating. Burial will be at Mountain Valley Cemetery in Edgewood.
