RONALD EUGENE CATES

Ronald Eugene Cates, 66, a resident of Williamsburg, N.M., passed away July 4, 2010, at his home. He was born in Portales, N.M. on May 8, 1944. He was preceded in death by his father Powell Cates; mother Helen (Wright) Daugherty; and brother Andrew Cates. He is survived by his special friend Shirley Beck James; his sisters, Vimmie Ray and her husband Dick of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Donna Meskimen and her husband Tom of Montana; and his brothers, Marvin Cates and Joe Cates. His children: Mark Cates, Tina Jo Cates-Ortega and her husband Jonathan of Moriarty, Scott Cates of San Antonio, Texas, Shellie Dillon and her husband Paul of Edgewood, Dino Cates and his wife Teri of Truth or Consequences, Dee Dee Merrill of Dallas, Ga., Tina Gayle Cates of Casa Grande, Ariz., Clinton Reames and his wife Christine, and Nicole Hayes of Farmington. He has 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He served in the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Insulator and Allied Worker, Union Local 76, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3224, and the Moose Lodge. He spent his later years connecting with his children and enjoyed his grandchildren. (Papa) Ronnie was an ornery and loving grandpa and will be greatly missed. Memorial Services were held at Kirikos Funeral Home on July 10. Reception followed at the Moose Lodge on E. Smith Ave. in TorC. In-lieu-of flowers monetary donations can be sent to Ambercare Hospice of TorC or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

THEO RAY "TED" MEEK

Theo Ray "Ted" Meek, 95, died July 12, 2010. He is survived by his children, Lillian McConnell and husband Russell Bruce, Donna Sellers and husband Bob, Yvonne Murray and husband John, John Meek, James Meek and wife Theresa; grandchildren, James Meek and wife Amanda, Leon Meek, Brian Sellers and wife Stacey, Deanne Copely and husband Scott, Heather Finocchiaro and husband Mike, Susan Murray, Shawn Meek, Theo McConnell, Heather Roberts and husband Russell, Jonathan Meek; six great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. Theo was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents John and Charlotte Meek; and his three brothers, Millard Meek, Dewey Meek and Albert Meeks; and sister, Mattie Bell Moseley. He was raised in the Estancia Valley and served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Theo and Mary raised their family in the Española Valley. Ted retired from Hunter Ford Motor Company in 1972 and the family moved back to the Estancia Valley. Visitation will be July 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at French Mortuary on Lomas and a graveside service will be at 11 a.m. July 16 at the Mountain Valley Cemetery, Barton, NM. MICHELE V. TURNER

Michele V. Turner, 36, a resident of Sandia Park passed away on July 12, 2010. Michele is survived by her brother, Joseph Trujillo; her partner, Roxanne Campos; her adopted parents, Eduardo and Dolores Campos; her uncle/Godfather, Lawrence Baca and wife Terry; her aunt/Godmother, Ernestina Baca; and many other extended family and friends. Michele was preceded in death by her parents, Roy A. and Gloria B. Turner; and her grandparents, Andres and Viola Baca. Michele was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday, July 16, 2010 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal SE from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the Rosary a 10:30 a.m., Father Jerry Mueller, presider. MARIAN FRANCES BARNES

Marian Frances Barnes, 91, of Moriarty peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Marian was born on October 15, 1918 in McIntosh to George and Margaret Ellen (Adams) Davis. Marian was a lifetime resident of Moriarty.

She married Harold Barnes in McIntosh on May 1, 1949. She was a member of the Moriarty Church of Christ and treasurer of the Moriarty Senior Center. She was a retired public school teacher and case worker of the welfare department. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret Davis; her husband of 42 years, Harold Barnes, who passed away on November 1, 1991; son, Earl Barnes and sister, Lois Larson. She is survived by her sons, Howard Barnes, and his wife, Sherry of Moriarty, George Barnes and his wife, Pattee of Temple, Texas, Richard Barnes and his wife, Sandra of Moriarty and Gary Barnes of Moriarty; brother, Frank Davis of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. There was a viewing on July 9 at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty. The funeral service was July 10, 2010 at Moriarty Church of Christ with Rev. John Booth officiating.
