ROSENDO BARELA SR.
Rosendo Barela Sr., 73, of Estancia passed away quietly Tuesday, July 13, with his four daughters, Mary, Sylvia, Diane and Brenda at his side. Rosendo was born in Tajique on March 14, 1937, to Pete and Emilia (Chavez) Barela. Rosendo was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rosendo lived in the Estancia Valley all his life. He married Carmen M. Gallegos on April 30, 1955.They had five beautiful children. She preceded him in death in 1991, after 36 years of marriage. Rosendo was a carpenter by trade. He worked for See Gee Engineering for 26 years and Luther Construction for six years. He was involved in the community and was a Torrance County deputy and also ran for sheriff. He had a great love for racehorses and antiques. Rosendo is survived by his wife, Carmen Martinez; son, Rosendo Barela Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; daughters, Mary E. Chavez and Ramon Acosta of Estancia, Sylvia A. Gutierrez and her husband, Raymond, of Chilili, Diane Martinez and her husband, Carlos, of Albuquerque, and Brenda S. Padilla and her husband, Albert, of Willard; brothers, Ralph Barela and his wife, Domie, Pete Barela and his wife, Maria; sisters, Barbara Chavez and her husband, Alberto, Alice Trujillo and her husband, Jesus, Lena Barela and Corrine Montoya and her husband, Emil; grandchildren, Abraham Barela, Crystal Gutierrez, James Barela, Juan Gutierrez, Lani Barela, Naomi Barela, Yvonne Gutierrez, Heather Chavez, Arianna Martinez, Jonathan Chavez, Erica Martinez, Andrew Chavez and Estevan Padilla; great-grandchildren, Anna Barela, Alize Gutierrez, Destiny Gutierrez, Adrianna Gutierrez, and Amarrisa Gutierrez-Gonzales; stepchildren, Lorraine Otero, Sarah Martinez and her husband, Jody, Paul Otero and his wife, Anita, and Bernadette Otero. There was a rosary at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Estancia on Thursday, July 15. Funeral Mass was July 16 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father William Young officiating. Pallbearers were Abraham Barela, Juan Gutierrez, Jonathan Chavez, Andrew Chavez, Estevan Padilla and Keith Sanchez. Burial of cremains followed at the Estancia Catholic Cemetery on July 17. Harris-Hanlon Mortuary JAMIE D. SPRENTZ 2/16/71-7/7/10 Jamie passed away peacefully after a good fight with a long-term illness. PEARSON Howard N. Pearson, 75, of Edgewood passed away at his home Tuesday, July 13. Howard was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Carthage, Mo., to Frank and Hazel (Medearis) Pearson. Howard had lived in Edgewood since 1991, having previously lived in Arizona. He was a retired machinist and a member of the VFW, having served in the U.S. Navy. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Kelley, Regina Pearson and Shari Fyfe and her husband, Daniel; brother, Donald Pearson, sisters Wilma Fields and Jan Willis; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. GEORGE WASHINGTON BASS George Washington Bass, 69, of Roswell passed away in Albuquerque on Sunday, July 18. George was born in Haylow, Ga., on Sept. 24, 1940, to Max and Ethel (Griffis) Bass. He had lived in Roswell for the past 13 years, having previously lived in Albuquerque. He married Patsy Makinson in Alamogordo on Sept. 23, 1960. He was a member of the Sertoma Organization, an ordained minister and a member of the National Hearing Aid Association. George was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patsy Bass of Roswell; sons Chris Bass and Dymphna Bacon of Moriarty, Bill Bass and his wife, Becky, of Hobbs, and Trevor Bass and his wife, Grechen, of Albuquerque; brother, Jim Bass; four grandchildren, Abigail, Margaret, Royce and Maryjane. There will be a memorial service July 24 at Cahoon Park in Roswell at 5 p.m., with Brother Dale Shirley officiating. Harris-Hanlon Mortuary CINDY ANN FLORES Cindy Ann Flores, 38, a lifelong resident of Abo passed away Wednesday, July 14 into the loving arms of our Lord and joined her father and mother, Nick and Lorraine Flores. She was born June 18, 1973. She is survived by her 10 loving children: Michael Silva, 20, Lauralee Silva, 19, Christopher Silva, 17, Brenda Silva, 15, Joshua Silva, 14, Jessica Silva, 13, Domonic Silva, 11, Zackary Flores, 10, Robert Flores, 7, and Lorenzo Flores, 3. Cindy is also survived by her older brother Robert Flores and his wife, Roseann Flores; her older sister Viola Romero; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass was celebrated July 17 at the San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Abo. Honorary pallbearers were her seven sons. She will not be forgotten. PETE J. SEDILLO Pete J. Sedillo, 65, of Estancia passed away in Albuquerque on Tuesday, July 20. Pete was born in Tajique on Aug. 20, 1944, to Manuel and Sofia (Sanchez) Sedillo Sr. Pete was a lifelong resident of Estancia. He married Mary, his wife of 44 years, in Estancia on June 18, 1966. They raised two sons, Jesse and Jacob. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Sofia Sedillo; three brothers, Julian Anaya, Manuel Sedillo Jr. and Tony Anaya; and two sisters, Loyola Herrera and Beatrice Garcia. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sedillo of Estancia; sons, Jesse Sedillo and his wife, Paula, and Jacob Sedillo and his wife, Victoria, all of Estancia; sister, Connie Maestas Hermosillo of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Noah Sedillo, Isaiah Sedillo, Matthew Sedillo and Sophia Sedillo. A rosary will be recited at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Estancia at 7 p.m. today, led by Deacon Juan Lucero. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Estancia, with Father Mark Granito officiating. Pallbearers will be Noah Sedillo, Isaiah Sedillo, Matthew Sedillo, Joseph Luna, Philip Luna, Dale Garley, Solis Herrera, and Joe Garcia.
