. For information, call 832-5951. Pinto 'Probably' Will Stay Home There have been rumors that Moriarty High baseball catcher Isaac Aragón, a senior-to-be, might transfer to another high school. "More than likely, I'm staying at Moriarty," said Aragón, who helped the Albuquerque Shockers defeat the Moriarty Pintos in the American Amateur Baseball Congress 17-and-under state tourney at Valley High on Tuesday. "It's just that my godfather went to Valley, and he wanted me to go there, too. But I'll probably stay at Moriarty." Pinto Anaya Wins Regional 3,000 Austin Anaya took first place in the Youth Boys Division 3,000-meter run at the USA Track and Field Region X Championships in Pueblo, Colo., earlier this month. The Moriarty High sophomore-to-be clocked the run in 10 minutes, 5.50 seconds. He also was third in the 1,500 at 4:31.05 and sixth in the 800 at 2:10.43. Anaya qualified to compete in the USATF Junior Olympics National Championships in Sacramento, Calif. That meet starts Tuesday and runs through Aug. 1. Pintos Host Softball Camp Moriarty High will host its Pinto Softball Camp for grades 5-12 on July 30 and 31, according to a news release from the school's athletic office. The camper fee is $30. The event will run from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 30 and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 31. For information, call coach Brett McWilliams at 615-0272. In addition, the school will also host the following other camps: Pinto Football Camp: grades 3-6, cost $35, Monday through Wednesday,, 9 a.m. to noon. Pinto Volleyball Champions Camp: grades 5-7, cost $65, Aug. 2-5, 9 a.m. to noon; grades 8-12, cost $65, Aug. 2-5, 1 to 4 p.m. Registration forms are available in the high school athletic office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday or from the coaches. Football Camp Free for Players The Moriarty-Edgewood School District's Football Workout Camp for current and prospective Edgewood and Moriarty middle school players, specifically rising seventh- and eighth-graders, will continue on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. through July 29 at the high school, Pintos coach Bob Allcorn said. The Moriarty High football staff will work with the attendees on offensive and defensive plays, techniques and fundamentals. The camp is free. The district is in need of one more football coach to support Edgewood Middle School's program for the for the upcoming fall season. Monarchs Hold Youth Hoops Camp The Manzano High School Girls Instructional Basketball Camp will happen on Aug. 2-4 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Monarchs' gym. The camp is for sixth- through 12th-grade girls. Cost is $40 per participant. Campers can register at the door. Instruction will emphasize dribbling, shooting and defensive skills, and will also include other basketball-related drills. Prizes will be provided to the top 3-point and free-throw shooters, and all participants get a T-shirt. The lobby snack bar will be open during breaks. . Chilili Rodeo Club Hosts Bull-A-Rama The 15th annual Chilili Bull-A-Rama is Sunday with a 1 p.m. start. Though the bulls will remain the main event, bareback and saddle-bronc riding competitions will also be held, said Fernando Gutierrez, the president of the Chilili Rodeo Club. Chilili's arena is off N.M. 337 in the far southeast corner of Bernalillo County — south of Chilili proper — in the Manzano Mountains' eastern foothills. The Bull-A-Rama — and only the Bull-A-Rama, Gutierrez stressed — will have an added $1,000 bonus thrown into the pot to be awarded to the July 25 bull-riding winner. The bulls won last year with no riders covering the rank animals. Chilili also will host two ranch-style rodeos on Aug. 15 and Sept. 12. Both start at 1 p.m. Events will include calf, bareback, saddle-bronc and bull riding, Gutierrez said. Escobosa Riders' Rodeos Continue The Escobosa Riders Club's annual ranch-style rodeo series, which took a one-year hiatus in 2009 due to a funding shortfall, will continue on Aug. 1 and Sept. 5, with both days' events starting at 1 p.m. The Torreon-based band "Los Garrapatas" will provide the entertainment. Old Timer's Day Rodeo This Month The Torrance County Fairgrounds arena in Estancia will be the venue for the Old Timer's Day Rodeo, a junior competition, on July 31 at 1 p.m. Registration will run from 8 to 11 a.m. Cash only. Female Roping Event Coming The All-Ladies Team Roping competition will be held at Encinias Arena, south of Moriarty, on Aug. 28. Books close at noon for the new wave round robin. Gymkhana Rodeo Down to the Wire Mountainair Gymkhana Rodeo has proclaimed Aug. 1 as its Tough Enough to Wear Pink Day. The final rodeo of the 2010 MGR youth rodeo series, which will start about 8 a.m. at the Mountainair Rodeo Grounds, will benefit Torrance County residents who are fighting cancer. Here are the 6-and-under all-around standings going into the final rodeo: County Fair Junior Rodeo in August The Torrance County Fair Junior Rodeo will be held Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. at the fairgrounds in Estancia, according to Wayne Metzger, fair board president. Age divisions run from 6-and-under to 16-18. Registration will run from 8 to 9:30 a.m. the day of the rodeo. Cash only — no checks — will be accepted for entry fees.
